Via:HGTV Everyone likes keeping a beautiful yard, but sometimes, imagining exactly how you want your yard to look can be very difficult. When you’re stuck, it’s always a good idea to call in a team of professionals. Here are a few ways you can describe the ideal landscape to your local nursery. If you have a friend whose landscape you admire, then ask him or her if you can take pictures and show them to your nursery. This can be great if you don’t know the name of a certain tree or if you simply like the arrangement of a landscape and want to mimic it in your yard. All you need to do is show your nursery the pictures, and they’ll do the rest. When planning a beautiful new landscape, it’s always a good idea to do your research. This means picking up a few magazines or surfing the Internet until you find helpful tips or images. Simply print or tear out the pictures you like and bring them with you on your next trip to the nursery. A plant expert will be able to give you advice on the feasibility of the pictured design, including climate considerations, cost, level of care, and more. - Take a walk around the nursery
Lastly, a great way to get your design wheels turning is to simply walk around the nursery, and take down the names of trees you want for your yard. You can then make a small landscape design that explains where each plant might go. The nursery expert can then give you some advice based on sunlight and shade considerations, aesthetics, and other factors. If you’re looking for a wonderful nursery to help with your landscape, then come by Moon Valley Nursery. Since trees are a big part of what makes our world beautiful, it’s easy to understand why we would want them in our yards. However, trees can be very finicky growers if the conditions aren’t right. Though you may want certain species of tree in your yard, it could be that your yard simply can’t support them. Here’s a quick guide to choosing the right trees for your landscape:
Soil: The soil is the source of your tree’s nutrients, so it should be the first factor you consider. Determine whether your yard’s soil is composed of primarily sand, silt, or clay—if you’re feeling really savvy, you could even get a home test kit and find out the pH level. You should then take the information to a nursery, where they will tell you whether or not your soil is suitable for palm, citrus, or other trees.
Space: It’s important not to determine which trees to buy based on how they appear at the nursery. Instead, you should do a bit of research to find out what these trees look like once they reach maturity. Then make sure that your yard will be able to support their needs for years to come.
Conditions: In addition to soil and space, you also have to make sure your landscape has the right conditions to support tree life. Does your yard get enough sun? Is it flat? Does it get a lot of wind? These are all important factors to think about before settling on a type of tree. The process of selecting trees is sometimes overwhelming, which is why it’s always a good idea to seek the help of nursery professionals.

The fall planting season is upon us...after an extra hot and brutal summer, the weather is now perfect for planting. Arizona's fall temperatures provide optimal growing conditions for many types of trees. By planting trees now, you're giving your trees the longest possible window to establish their roots before next year's summer heat. Some of the best types of trees to plant for the fall season include Ficus trees, Sisso trees, all Ash varieties, Mexican Fan Palms, Museum Palo Verde, Jacaranda, Piru Queen Palms, and Tipu trees. Planting these varities now will establish their large, shady canopies in time for next year's summer.
We wanted to take this time to warn you that the recent and current record heat may be causing heat stress on your trees and plants. The heat will be continuing for the next few weeks as we finish Summer. Visit here for more weather information. While we are experiencing these near-record temperatures, we encourage all of our customers to take time now and make sure extra water is provided to all of your trees and plants and be on the lookout for signs of heat stress. Symptoms may include yellow, brown or wilted appearing foliage. Leaves may be dried or scorched in the areas which face west or southwest. An overall weak and wilted appearance is also a sign of heat stress. In addition to proper watering, make sure your trees and plants have the right nutrients available to help survive the intense heat we're experiencing this week. Our Supercharged Moon Juice and Super Palm Juice both contain the necessary ingredients to minimize the damaging effects caused by record heat. Moon Valley Nurseries Soil & Water Conditioner softens the soil and fights the effects of salt build-up from constant summer watering.

The Furst Liquid Technology in our new Juice formulas have been getting repeat customers all summer. Helping trees and palms grow new roots and develop stronger cells for transporting nutrients and moisture throughout the tree structure can help damaged trees recover faster. Healthy trees perform even better with darker foliage, fuller thicker growth and stronger trunks and branches.
We all love the rain that our monsoon storms bring to cool down our scorching summers, however summer monsoons bring strong winds and micro-bursts causing severe damage to trees Valley-wide. We can prevent much of this expensive damage with a little observation and some preventative care.
Staking young trees with two stakes will help them move with the wind and resist blowing over or breaking. Established trees with full canopies have created a sail for the wind to push it over or break it off at the trunk. Thinning out the tree by selectively removing some branches can allow wind to get through the canopy with less force on the structure. Mesquite, Elm, and Ash trees can all be susceptible to this type of damage. Any tree with a large canopy is a possible candidate for this type of thinning. If you have any questions you can bring a photo into any of our stores and we can advise you.
