The Desert Bird of Paradise or Yellow Bird of Paradise, botanical name Caesalpinia gilliesii, is a South American native revered for its red stamens and soft yellow flowers. Its feathery-like foliage is a hummingbird attractor and can soften any arid landscape. This bird of paradise is versatile too, it also works great in any tropical landscape. We like to plant these shrubs in groups where they can be used as textural hedge or screen!

This is a heat tolerant shrub, making them an excellent choice to adorn landscapes in the Southwest! Desert Bird of Paradise thrive in a location that gets plenty of full sun exposure, and they need minimal care, with low to moderate water requirements once established, great for any waterwise garden! Caesalpinia gilliesii also thrive in a wide range of soils and do not require any fertilization, once they're established in your landscape, just let them grow! We do recommend pruning the branch ends following a bloom cycle, and doing this will keep it fuller and promote a quicker re-bloom.

We like to plant Yellow Bird of Paradise with other colorful plants such as Bottlebrush, Bougainvillea as well as Yucca and Agave plants, all of which can be found in Moon Valley Nurseries! 1. Yellow Bird
When you want the red bird of paradise style, but want yellow flowers, this is your plant. Mine grow very VERY fast, and seem to have flowers on them all the time.
