Dwarf Buford Holly

Ilex cornuta 'Dwarf Burford'

  • A dwarf Chinese Holly
  • Vibrant evergreen shrub
  • Attractive green foliage
  • Slow growth rate
  • Landscape uses: Barrier or Hedge
  • Bearer of large, bright red berries in winter
  • Is often planted beneath windows
  • Very easy to maintain

This is a miniature version of one of the most popular hollies, the Chinese Holly. Dwarf Buford Holly, botanical name Ilex cornuta 'Dwarf Burford,' is a perfect evergreen for a natural hedge. We also like to plant them as an attractive shrub for foundation or border planting. Native to China and Korea, anyone with an Asian-inspired garden or urban garden is sure to appreciate its compact growth habit. This holly is tolerant of salt and pollution, so it is well-suited for coastal and urban gardens.

This Dwarf Buford Holly features attractive foliage. New growth is emerald-green, blending beautifully with the darker green colored mature foliage. It blooms petite white flowers in spring, which later gives way to the showy, large, bright red ornamental berries that can brighten up any landscape. This is a decorative shrub that is ideal for smaller yards. We like to plant them to fill spaces in the landscape that could use some vibrant color and beauty!

Dwarf Buford Holly thrive in a location with partial to full sun exposure. If you want a tidy, neat appearance, we recommend shearing annually to shape. Once established, these plants have low to moderate watering needs. Feed with fertilizer before new growth begins in spring. If you are looking for a colorful, low-maintenance shrub, look no further!
