Don’t let the name fool you, Mother In Law’s Tongue will impress any mother in law! Sansevieria trifasciata (botanical name) is an easy-to-care-for evergreen perennial from western tropical Africa, and we like to use them as attractive plants for indoors or outdoors! People love them as houseplants. Their beautiful and striking appearance complements any room! The leaves are thick, rigidly upright, and feature very dark green centers surrounded by yellow/gold edges. These plants are virtually indestructible!
If you plan to grow them outside, you will be happy to know that they can tolerate many soil types. The Mother In Law’s Tongue tolerates salt, too, so they are ideal for planting along the coast. They can grow in a spot with little or low light! They thrive best with plenty of bright light.
Sansevieria trifasciata have succulent leaves, so they do not need much water. In fact, too much water can make the plant mushy! We recommend fertilizing your Snake Plant once a month during the spring and summer. Plant them in a succulent garden and take in the beautiful view that these plants add to any landscape.
