How to Properly Care for Hopseed in Your LandscapeHopseed love to grow in a location with plenty of full sun exposure. Plant them in a spot that gets at least six hours of direct sunlight each day. These plants can take any kind of soil, ocean winds, and dry desert heat. Use them as a tall narrow screen, hedge, or as a colorful filler plant in the yard. Homeowners in hot climates take note – when planted as a tightly spaced hedge, they can provide shelter from desert winds. You can also plant them in a lovely container and mix them with draping plants.
How to Water HopseedBoth Hopseed varieties are water-wise plants. Once established, it has low watering needs. Always remember that deep watering is the best method. To water, deep soak around the root ball. It is a good idea to install emitters about one and a half feet from the trunk. If you are using a water hose, be sure to set the hose on a slow trickle so that it can thoroughly saturate the root ball.
How to Fertilize Your HopseedThough Hopseed is not a heavy feeder, it does appreciate the proper fertilizer. For best results, apply Moon Dust three times a year. So that you can remember easier, we recommend fertilizing with Moon Dust on Labor Day, Memorial Day, and Valentine’s Day. Applying Moon Juice every month is going to help these plants, too.
