Fishtail Palm (Caryotis urens)
The Fishtail Palm makes a unique tropical statement in every landscape it’s planted in. It’s thick, layers of ruffled fronds - which can measure more than 8 feet long - form a shape like a jagged fish’s tail. Planted as a standalone focal point the Fishtail Palm can reach heights of 20-25 feet tall, but grow at a slow rate.
Another great option for the Fishtail Palm is as a privacy hedge. When planted together at a young age they’re draping fronds of deep green leaves create a screen of tropical privacy. They are a great alternative to clumping bamboo. Grow in full sun to partial shade and reap the benefits of one of Southern California’s most unique palms.
