Shot Hole Fungus
WHAT IS SHOT HOLE FUNGUS
This disease affects a variety of plants and can be readily recognized on the surface of the leaves. The fungus creates small, round patches of spores that eventually pierce through the leaf, leaving behind small “shot holes.”
SIGN OF SHOT HOLE FUNGUS
Shot hole fungus will emerge in spring, most commonly after foggy or rainy winters. You can find it on the surface of your plant’s leaves. This fungus will cause small, round, dark patches to appear on leaves. These patches will eventually progress into uniform holes on the leaf’s surface.
How to Treat
- Prevention – Prevent this fungus from growing in the first place by keeping your trees properly pruned to maximize airflow and allow leaves to dry more quickly after rainy periods. The quicker they dry, the less opportunity the fungus must spread.
- Fertilizer – Unfortunately, affected leaves can never fully heal from the holes caused by this fungus. To encourage new, healthy leaves to grow and fill the canopy back in, fertilize your trees with a combination of Super Charged Moon Juice and Moon Microboost.
- Treatment – Treat affected trees both inside and out using a combination of copper and systemic fungicides. Monitor the newest leaves on the tree for any signs of reinfection. Follow all instructions on the product label.
