SUNBURN

WHAT IS SUNBURN

Sunburn is most seen on the trunk of affected trees, where direct exposure to the sun and high temperatures can cause damage to the cambium layer. This presents as cracking, splitting, peeling, or discolored bark.

SIGN OF SUNBRUN

Sunburn damage will occur during the summer but the damage remain year-round. It can be found on the southwest side of the trunk and on the upper side of limbs. Sunburn will cause discolored patches to form on areas of bark that receive direct light. In severe cases, the bark will crack or split entirely and ooze sap.

How to Treat

  1. Prevention – Young trees are especially prone to sunburn until their canopies grow wide enough to shade the trunk. Prevent any potential damage by applying trunk wrap or paint on the trunk of the tree, from the base to the first main branch of the canopy. Any limbs receiving direct exposure can be protected, too.
  2. Fertilizer – Sunburn on the trunk of the tree can cause stress throughout the entire plant. Combat the stress and give your trees all the nutrients they need to heal from the damage with applications of Super Charged Moon Juice and Moon Microboost.
