Fishhook Barrel Cactus (Echinocactus grusonii)
It's easy to see where the Fishhook Barrel Cactus gets its name. The long, red, curved thorns produced by the Fishhook Barrel Cactus give this specimen a very unique look that carries throughout the growth of the tree. During late spring, the Fishhook Barrel Cactus will bloom with orange-red blooms in the spring, followed by round, pear-shaped fruit that turns yellow when ripe.
Native to Arizona and Mexico, Fishhook Barrel Cactus are perfectly at home in Phoenix and will thrive in the full sun. A moderately fast growing cactus, the Fishhook Barrel Cactus can reach up to 5 feet tall, but is most known for keeping its rounded, symmetrical shape throughout growth.
