African Tulip (Spathodea Campanulata)
The African Tulip tree as the name suggest is from Africa and is one of the most popular of flowering trees due to its abundant large blooms that produce spring and fall. This tree has become an ever increasing popular coastal tree to plant and thrives in San Diego, Oceanside, Escondido, Orange County, Hollywood, and other coastal Southern California climates. These are an extremely adaptable tree that handles our soil conditions very well and once established is a waterwise choice as well.
On top of the striking beauty that is the giant blooms of the African Tulip trees these are extenuated with eighteen inch long pinnately compound tropical leaves with seven to nineteen oval leaflets, each of these being four to six inches in length as well. Extremely tropical looking bloom topped off with beautiful deep green foliage makes this such an attractive focal point. These good sized evergreen trees are great in any landscape and offer large amounts of shade during the spring and summer months. This helps reduce utilities and create an inviting landscape for all to enjoy.
