Chilean Mesquite Care Guide
Chilean Mesquite tree, A.K.A. the Thornless Mesquite, is popular in the southwest due to its drought-tolerance and fast growth. It has proved itself to be a survivor in the desert and can be found all over southwestern states. It also offers an abundance of shade with its wide canopy reach, which can also be used as a privacy screen. This variety of Mesquite tree offers dark, textured trunks with bright green leaves. It can be grown with single or multiple trunks. It can be planted near pathways or patios and do well near Bougainvillea and Yucca plants.
How to Water Your Chilean Mesquite
Chilean Mesquite prosper in the dry desert conditions of the southwest. During its first growing season, water regularly to help establish a healthy and robust root system. To water, deep soak around the root ball. Install emitters about one and a half feet from the trunk. If using a water hose, set the hose on a slow trickle so that it can thoroughly saturate the root ball. To help retain moisture, add a two to three-inch layer of mulch. Mulching is also a great way to prevent weeds. Be sure to keep mulch at least two inches away from the trunk. Allow the soil to fully dry before watering again.
How to Fertilize Your Chilean Mesquite
For best results, apply Moon Dust three times a year.
