The Live Oak Tree (Quercus virginiana) is a majestic, long-lived evergreen oak native to the southeastern United States, admired for its sprawling canopy and immense strength. Its wide, horizontally spreading branches create a broad, sheltering crown that offers dense, year-round shade, making it a favorite in parks, large yards, and historic landscapes. With its dark, leathery green leaves and gnarled, picturesque limbs, the Live Oak provides a classic Southern charm and is often seen draped with Spanish moss in its native habitat.

Thriving in USDA Zones 7 through 10, the Live Oak is highly adaptable to a variety of soils and is both drought- and salt-tolerant once established. It can grow up to 60 to 80 feet tall and even wider in spread, making it a dominant and enduring presence in the landscape. Extremely resilient to storms and wind, its strong wood and deep roots offer structural reliability for generations. A symbol of longevity and grace, the Live Oak is perfect for those seeking a stately shade tree with timeless beauty.

"This looks good, I am looking for the largest evergreen tree for year round shade in my front yard. I am removing all the grass and for water conservation and want a big tree to offer shade especially in the summer. I have a south facing home I do have a Ficus next to the house that was here when I moved it, but it is planted too close to the house to offer shade except in a limited area and because it was planted so close to the house it has to be trimmed often. I love the Ficus but not the location."
