Carissa Holly

Carissa Holly is an evergreen shrub with a compact growth habit and dark glossy green leaves that help make it an excellent choice for use as a lush green background for flowering plants. Native to China and Korea, we also like to plant Ilex cornuta'Carissa' in the Houston area as an easy-maintenance low hedge. When used as a hedge, we like to use them to frame a patio and to edge walks or paths. They are also excellent for planting along a foundation. Chinese Holly is a perfect choice for our local climate because it has a tolerance for heat and provides great color for all types of landscapes.

These shrubs prefer to grow in a location with part shade to full sun exposure. Carissa Holly has a high drought tolerance and once established will have little to moderate watering needs. They are easy to grow, and can also tolerate a broad range of soils, so they are perfect for growing in our area. Let them grow naturally, or if you desire a neat and tidy appearance, you may want to shear them annually to shape. Every property could use some greenery, and Ilex cornuta'Carissa' delivers!
