Lion's Ear

Leonotis leonurus, commonly known as the Lion's Ear, is a striking, fast-growing shrub native to Southern Africa. It is known for its tall, upright stems that can reach heights of 4 to 6 feet and its distinctive, tubular orange or orange-red flowers that grow in dense, whorled clusters resembling a Lion’s ear, hence the name. Lion's Ear thrives in well-drained, sandy, loamy soils and prefers full sun, making it suitable for gardens in warm, dry climates. It is a drought-tolerant plant that was established once, making it ideal for water-wise landscapes.
