Black Bamboo, scientifically known as Phyllostachys nigra, is a rapidly growing bamboo variety that exudes elegance and serves a multitude of practical purposes. Originally hailing from the subtropical regions of China, Black Bamboo makes an excellent centerpiece for any garden style, be it tropical or contemporary. This medium to tall bamboo plant showcases remarkable black stems juxtaposed with vibrant green foliage, offering an eye-catching contrast that elevates your landscape's aesthetics.

Black Bamboo is highly resilient to varying climate conditions—it's both cold hardy and heat tolerant. Furthermore, it is a versatile plant that thrives in full sun to partial shade settings. This means you don't have to reside in a tropical climate to enjoy the unique beauty and benefits of Black Bamboo. Homeowners across Arizona, California, Nevada, Texas, and Tennessee can effortlessly incorporate this striking plant into their gardens.

Functional as well as beautiful, Black Bamboo serves as an effective living privacy wall and windbreak, enhancing not just the beauty but also the value of your property. The distinctive black canes, maturing in their second year, can even be harvested for various crafts and applications, from furniture to artistic projects.

Every time a plant is watered, the soil should be thoroughly saturated to a depth of at least 2 to 3 feet and at least as wide as a tree well. Very slow and deep watering is always recommended. During periods of extreme heat, we advise at least 1 additional time per week of watering for all varieties. For periods of heavy rain (1/2” or more) adjust accordingly by possibly skipping a watering session for that time.
