The Flowering Pear is a vigorous tree that can add fantastic color to any landscape. Moon Valley Nurseries offers several varieties including 'Aristocrat', 'Bradford', and 'Chanticleer', each featuring the desirable features that make these Pear trees such a welcome addition to a Southwestern landscape.

The Flowering Pear tree is noted for its profuse late winter or early spring show of white flowers and lustrous leaves. Adding to the interest are the broadly oval, scallop-edged leaves that go from glossy dark green to a rich, purple-like red fall color. This change of colors is what gives us here in the Southwest the ability to see and feel the changes in the seasons.

A moderate to fast-growing tree, Flowering Pear trees need low to moderate watering once established. They love full sun exposure and are versatile trees that are highly resistant to fire-blight. Their firewise features make it an excellent choice for firescaping. Homeowners are sure to appreciate their easy-to-care-for features, with pruning only required for shape and structure after their flowering season.

Another attractive feature, especially for homeowners in urban environments, is its tolerance for urban pollution. Feel free to plant this tree in an urban garden and bring natural beauty into the city.

They are perfect-sized trees for an Asian/Zen garden or Mediterranean garden style. An ornamental tree, Flowering Pears produces a thick, umbrella-shaped canopy that not only has a fantastic color but also makes this an excellent shade tree

Every time a plant is watered, the soil should be thoroughly saturated to a depth of at least 2 to 3 feet and at least as wide as a tree well. Very slow and deep watering is always recommended. During periods of extreme heat, we advise at least 1 additional time per week of watering for all varieties. For periods of heavy rain (1/2” or more) adjust accordingly by possibly skipping a watering session for that time.

Preston helped me out and did a great job. I wanted a flowering tree but always wanted seasonal fall color since that isn't something I see much of living in Arizona. He came out to my house and helped me pick out 5 of these flowering pear trees for my landscape. (They don't grow actual pears) I love the white flowers they get in the spring and the fall color I get now makes my yard look like I live in a different state.
