The Beaver Tail Prickly Pear is a southwest native and is often confused with the traditional prickly pear. However, there are big differences in growth and color, with the Beaver Tail Prickly Pear producing deep pink colored blooms throughout the summer. During winter, the Beaver Tail Prickly Pear will turn to a light purple color, providing a unique seasonal change with a traditional looking cactus. Moderately fast growers, Beaver Tail Prickly Pear Cactus usually grow to about 3 feet tall, reaching around 3-4 feet in width. The name comes from the shape of the tightly clustered cactus leaves that grow out from the structure. This is one Arizona native that's best suited for full sun exposure, so don't worry about this cactus in the heat.

I have a xeriscaped front yard and had to replace my Prickly Pear. Went to moon valley nurseries since they had the same thing closest to size. Looks like i never replaced the old one.
