The Dense Yew, often referring to Taxus x media 'Densiformis' or similar cultivars, is a compact, evergreen shrub known for its lush, dark green needles and naturally dense, spreading form. It typically grows 3 to 4 feet high and 4 to 6 feet wide, making it ideal for foundation plantings, low hedges, or as a reliable backdrop in mixed borders. Its fine-textured foliage provides year-round interest and a rich, evergreen presence in the landscape. Female plants may produce small, red, berry-like arils in the fall, which add seasonal color and attract birds, though all parts of the plant are toxic if ingested by humans or pets.

One of the greatest strengths of Dense Yew is its adaptability. It thrives in full sun to full shade, tolerates a variety of soil types as long as they are well-drained, and responds well to pruning, which allows gardeners to shape it to fit formal or informal designs. Its dense growth habit also makes it a popular choice for privacy screens or windbreaks in residential gardens. Resistant to deer and generally low-maintenance, Dense Yew is a long-lived shrub that adds structure and reliability to any landscape.
