The Gold Mound Duranta (Duranta erecta 'Gold Mound') is a vibrant, fast-growing tropical shrub known for its striking chartreuse to golden-yellow foliage. Unlike other duranta varieties that are grown for their flowers or berries, the Gold Mound cultivar stands out primarily for its brilliant leaves, which provide bold color contrast in garden beds, borders, or containers year-round in warm climates. Its dense, mounding growth habit makes it ideal as a low hedge or accent plant, and it typically reaches 2 to 4 feet in height and width when regularly trimmed.

Gold Mound Duranta thrives in full sun, which helps maintain its vivid leaf color, and prefers well-drained soil. It is drought-tolerant once established and relatively low-maintenance, though it benefits from occasional pruning to maintain shape and fullness. While it may produce small, pale blue or lavender flowers in ideal conditions, they are usually sparse and not the plant’s main attraction. In cooler zones (below USDA Zone 9), it’s often grown as an annual or brought indoors during winter. Its bright foliage, minimal care requirements, and versatility make it a popular choice for adding long-lasting color and texture to tropical and subtropical landscapes.
