The Prickly Pear Cactus is the original-looking cacti cluster that people commonly associate with cacti. Native to many different desert parts in the Southwest, there's no better way to achieve that Arizona desert look for your landscape than adding some Prickly Pear Cacti. Due to its compact size and unique spiny appearance, it is often used in xeriscaping and as an ornamental cactus.

The Prickly Pear cactus grows small circular paddles with many fine, needle-like spines. They produce large yellow-orange blooms in the spring or early summer. After the blooming cycle, the cactus bears fruit that turns purple when ripe and edible (once properly prepared). Prickly Pear cacti are light green but can get a shade of purple when the weather is cooler. Naturally suited to our environment and moderately fast growers, Prickly Pear Cactus doesn't require much watering or care after they're established. Prickly Pear Cactus are the safe bet to plant when you want that classic Arizona feel to any landscape. Visit one of our many locations today and our nursery pros will assist you in selecting the perfect location to plant one of these desert classics.

"I love this cactus, I have a lot of other desert plants and cactus in my yard, but the prickly pear just adds so much shape to the areas they are planted, nothing grows quite the same way so it helps fill an area with that interesting desert look. "
