The Simmonds avocado is a popular early-season variety known for its smooth green skin, rich flavor, and excellent adaptability to warm, humid climates. Originating in Florida, Simmonds is one of the most commonly grown avocados in the state and is especially well-suited for USDA Zones 9b–11. The fruit matures early—typically ripening between June and September—and is medium to large in size, with creamy, pale green flesh and a relatively small seed. Simmonds avocados are appreciated for their buttery texture and mild, nutty flavor, making them ideal for slicing, salads, and guacamole.

Simmonds avocado trees are vigorous growers, reaching heights of up to 30–40 feet if unpruned, with a wide canopy of dark green leaves. They require well-drained soil, full sun, and protection from cold snaps and strong winds. While more cold-tolerant than some West Indian types, Simmonds trees can still be damaged by temperatures below 28–30°F. Regular watering and fertilization help the tree establish and produce fruit reliably, but overwatering or poor drainage can lead to root rot. Due to their fast growth and productive nature, Simmonds trees are a favorite among home growers and commercial orchards in South Florida and similar subtropical regions.
