Purple New Zealand Flax, a plant native to New Zealand, produces large bunches of sword-shaped, stiff rising leaves with dark purple coloring. It is a grass-like evergreen that matures into a medium-sized plant.
It does best in full/partial sun exposure and low water. It is salt and drought tolerant, so it can handle all types of well-drained soil. Purple New Zealand Flax only needs to be pruned when dead or damaged leaves are spotted.
The Purple New Zealand Flax bears flowers that bloom in the spring and summer. Those flowers blossom into reddish-maroon leaves. It grows up to six feet high and wide, which makes it a good choice as a privacy screen or as a decorative feature in your yard.
During the summer, this plant grows a flowering stalk, up to 10 feet tall, that produces red flowers that will attract birds looking for nectar.
- Great for some colorThe color on these is amazing and really pop against the other green plants in our landscape. The team at Moon Valley did a great job getting our package planted and our designer Ryan picked the perfect spots for these plants.
