Giant Timber Bamboo, Phyllostachys bambusoides, is a medium to large sized tree that is a good choice for use as a windbreak or privacy screen. Native to Taiwan and southern China, Giant Timber Bamboo is the most common clumping bamboo. This beautiful tree can be seen adorning a variety of landscapes across Southern California and the Southwest, including parts of Disneyland! It's a densely foliaged evergreen with fat bamboo shoots that goes well with tropical landscapes and tropical plants. Homeowners may want to thin out the foliage to expose the beautiful bamboo shoots.
