When the Chicago Cubs opened their state-of-the-art spring training facility in Mesa, Arizona, the landscape needed to match the caliber of the team and the excitement of the fans who travel from across the country to attend. Moon Valley Nurseries was selected to supply and install the signature trees that now define the look and feel of Cubs Park — delivering the kind of bold, immediate visual impact that a major league venue demands from the moment it opens its gates.
As the Southwest's largest wholesale nursery, Moon Valley is no stranger to high-profile sports and entertainment venues. Our growing scale allows us to fulfill large-volume orders with specimen-grade trees that arrive at full maturity, ensuring that a new facility looks established and impressive on opening day, not years down the road. Cubs Park is a standout example in our wholesale portfolio, alongside master-planned communities, resort golf courses, and landmark institutional projects throughout Arizona, Texas, Nevada, and California.
The defining feature of Cubs Park's landscape is its dramatic double row of specimen Date Palms lining the main pedestrian corridor from the parking area to the stadium entrance. Sourced from Moon Valley Nurseries' own growing grounds, these palms were selected for their matching trunk height, full canopy spread, and the characteristic diamond-patterned bark that gives mature Date Palms their unmistakable resort-caliber appearance.
The result is one of the most photographed arrival experiences in the Cactus League; a natural canopy tunnel that frames the walk to the ballpark and sets the tone for the entire fan experience. Throughout the rest of the property, additional palms line the stadium perimeter, reinforcing the sunny, Southwest resort atmosphere that makes spring training one of baseball's most beloved traditions.
Moon Valley's Resort-Style Date Palms™ are purpose-grown for exactly this kind of application: high-visibility, high-traffic venues where the landscape is part of the experience and the trees need to perform beautifully from day one. Our crews handled the full installation, using heavy equipment and proven planting techniques to set each large-caliper specimen to exacting specifications on a timeline that kept pace with the facility's construction schedule.
The Cubs Park project reflects Moon Valley Nurseries' ability to deliver premium plant material and professional installation at the scale and pace that major commercial developments require. Whether the deadline is a grand opening, a development milestone, or the first pitch of spring training, our wholesale team coordinates every detail — from species selection and grow-out to delivery logistics and field installation — so that the landscape is ready when it matters most.
From MLB spring training facilities and premium golf courses to master-planned communities and world-famous science centers, Moon Valley Nurseries has earned its place as the trusted wholesale plant partner for the Southwest's most iconic projects.
