  • Other common names include Texas Sage, Cienzo, Texas Silverleaf, Texas Barometer Bush
  • Unique contrast of silvery gray leaves
  • Light to dark purple flowers
  • Great as a standalone shrub
  • Fast Grower
  • Blooms often from Spring thru Fall
  • Attracts butterflies

A Texas native, the Blue Texas Ranger offers a unique contrast of soft silver gray leaves and puts on a show of light to dark purple flowers that bloom in spring all the way thru fall! In its native habitat, Leucophyllum frutescens is often found growing in ditches, ravines, hillsides, and slopes. Here in Houston, we love the dramatic contrast of the tubular flowers with the leaves, so we like to use them in groups as a hedge-able evergreen shrub or as a stand alone shrub where anyone can enjoy the attractive foliage!

The Blue Texas Ranger is easy to grow and tolerant of a broad range of soils. These hardy shrubs like to grow in a sunny location or one with partial shade exposure. They are also drought and heat tolerant and require little to moderate watering, so just let this fast grower do its thing, bringing beauty and interest to all types of landscapes!

Anyone looking to add a shrub with long-lasting, colorful and bright blooms should consider adding the Blue Texas Ranger to their landscape. These are ideal for adding curb appeal and is a favorite water-wise ornamental.

Fun fact: it is called the Texas Barometer Bush because they often flower after a few summer showers.

Moon Valley Nurseries takes pride in being growers of the best-looking, healthiest Leucophyllum frutescens in all of Texas. After all, we are the growers so we can assure their quality! These are good cause they are low water and have flowers so the wife is happy. They are easy to care for and don't need to always be shaped like you see the HOAs do, actually I find mine bloom more when I just trim what is needed instead of trying to make a shape out of them. They don't take a lot of water and noticed the butterflys really like them too.
